The fiery impact of God’s Word also awakens us to areas that need to be transformed by His Spirit. Like the warmth and comfort I feel when I draw near to the glowing warmth of a burning fireplace, the Word of God warms my heart when I sit before it and allow its life-giving truth to permeate my being. There is no medication that soothes the soul like God’s Word. The Bible brings warmth and comfort in times of difficulty. Its light exposes areas in our lives that need to be changed. For example, as fire purifies metal, God’s Word purifies our consciences, renews our minds, illuminates our spirits, and drives away darkness. The Bible is like fire in so many ways when it is allowed to work inside our hearts. That fuel is the Bible! I am praying for “a revival of the Bible.” Would you please join me in prayer for this as well? Today I want to keep speaking to you about spiritual fire and about one of the fuels needed to keep our fire burning brightly. Last month, I wrote to you about spiritual fire.

Later he became design director for the Olivetti Corporation of America, and then art director for Fortune magazine. When he moved to America in 1939, Lionni was hired by a Philadelphia advertising agency as art director. It was there that he met the contacts who were to give him a start as a professional graphic designer. Having settled in Milan soon after his marriage in 1931, he started off by writing about European architecture for a local magazine. Lionni's business training gradually receded into the background as his interest in art and design grew. He was born in Holland in 1910 of Dutch parents, and although his education did not include formal art courses (in fact, he has a doctorate in economics from the University of Genoa), he spent much of his free time as a child in Amsterdam's museums, teaching himself to draw. Leo Lionni has gained international renown for his paintings, graphic designs, illustrations, and sculpture, as well as for his books for children. Leo Lionni died in October of 1999 at his home in Tuscany, Italy, at the age of 89. He received the 1984 American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal and was a four-time Caldecott Honor Winner-for Inch by Inch, Frederick, Swimmy, and Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse. Leo Lionni wrote and illustrated more than 40 highly acclaimed children's books. Speaking to Inverse, Malerman admitted he couldn't divulge details about the project as yet. And he assures fans a movie adaptation will follow. A new novel from Malerman, titled Malorie, arrives on July 21, 2020. Upon the completion of their treacherous and terrifying journey, Malorie seems to have found safety and finally gives her two children names. Malorie spends the next few years training her children's survival skills to go to the next safe house, which turns out to be a school for the blind. But as they give birth, the creatures attack, and everyone dies, including Olympia. Malorie attempts to survive in a group house that includes a fellow pregnant roommate, Olympia. Set in three time periods, "The Problem," "After Birth," and "Present Day," the novel told the story of Malorie, who gives birth to a child during an apocalyptic scenario, where unseen creatures drive humans mad when gazed upon. Malerman first published the novel Bird Box back in 2014. It seems that will be the case, as writer Josh Malerman has confirmed there is a Bird Box movie sequel in the works. Despite the film feeling like a single story, with a very definite ending, viewers have since wondered if Netflix might make another one. By the end of the month, Netflix claimed a staggering 45 million accounts had watched it over the holiday weeks. Bird Box was a surprise hit for Netflix when it arrived on the service in December of 2018. He writes like horror incarnate - Thomas Rafferty, The New York Times Book Review For me as a reader, it was less impactful as philosophy than as one. Now with a new foreword by the author, The Conspiracy against the Human Race may just convince readers that there is more than a measure of truth in the dismaying yet unexpectedly liberating negativity that is a hallmark of Ligotti's work. I read The Conspiracy Against the Human Race and found it incredibly powerful writing. His first nonfiction book is no less estimable in exploring various domains to similarly disturbing effect.ĭrawing on philosophy, literature, neuroscience, and other fields of study, Ligotti takes the penetrating lens of his imagination and turns it on his audience, causing them to grapple with the brutal reality that we are living a meaningless nightmare, and anyone who believes otherwise has simply fallen under the spell of an optimistic fallacy. Thomas Ligotti's supernatural horror fiction is ranked among the most distinguished and disquieting in the genre.
